Full House Thurdsay

Good afternoon,

We had a couple...dozen...hundred extras in the room this afternoon - some who couldn't winter sport, and some whose teacher did.

Including one who'd been here before!

Earlier in the day Kowhai Reading Group entertained us with a play that they had just read.

And a good time was had by all.

I'm sorry to say that tomorrow's assembly has been cancelled due to the impending approach of the production. Tomorrow afternoon will be spent getting the last two whole school songs done.

Speaking of tomorrow and production, Room 2 will be split between Rooms 1, 11 and 12 after morning tea so that the choir can begin to practice with some live music.

Gotta go, the internet's being shut off in here for a bit!

Morning Machinations...

Good evening,

Well, the children did have fun in the snow left overnight at school this morning. Great fun, in point of fact.

As I mentioned, I think writing is humming along quite nicely. So, here's some proof.

Though to be fair, there is actually more proof contained within their writing books.

Anyway, later in the morning, Kowhai reading group read an article concerning what Room 13 of Henderson Valley School got up to with a bunch of daisies.

So they recreated it with maths counters.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

No News Tuesday

Well, no photos anyway.

Good evening,

Once again we were all flat out like lizards drinking, so, once again, I forgot to pick up the camera. Pity, they were doing some pretty groovy moves during Jump Jam!

I've just finished reading their writing, and I must say, I'm very pleased with the way it's all coming along. Lots of correctly punctuated speech, some great adjectives, a few similes and even a smattering of alliteration. Great stuff!

In fact, they're all humming along very nicely with pretty much everything. Maths, reading, dance, the lot!

Well done Room 2!

Mr Grant

Oh, and don't expect to be snowed in in the morning. Yes, the weather is cold and yucky, but...well...you've still got school in the morning!

Monday 27 May 2013

No Photos Monday

Good afternoon,

Sorry, we got a little busy today, and I forgot to bring out the camera.

Not really that much to report. We did a bit of maths, a bit of reading, a bit of R.E....

2013 Year 2 God Strand Pre Test

(this was just so that I could figure out what they already know, and what I'd have to teach them)

...and a touch of dance.

For those of you who were expecting to be snowed in over night...

...well, don't count on it!

See you all tomorrow,

Mr Grant

Galoop at First Communion

Good afternoon,

Once again on Friday I forgot to set Galoop free with a child for the weekend, so once again he came home with me. Goodness only knows what would happen if I had left him alone in Room 2 for the whole weekend!

So, since some of the children he got to know and love in 2010 were having their First Holy Communion, Galoop insisted that he come along to witness their declaration of faith.

He sat next to Mrs Davis...

...and said hello to some of the 2013 Room 2 children afterwards.

And a good time was had by all!

CU in the morning,

Get Up, Get Up

Good afternoon,

We all got up first thing this morning...

After assembly, while I was jamming with the band in Room 7, Room 7 came over to Room 2 to, well, TRUMP it with them.

And a good time was had by all!

Have a good weekend, and see you at First Communion on Sunday,

Mr Grant

No P.E. Thursday

Good afternoon,

As the afternoon wasn't quite conducive to hanging around outside, we stayed inside for some R.E. Art...

...and to watch the end of yesterday's Veggies Tales movie.

This morning we had some visitors from Our Lady of Fatima who had heard good things about what we are doing in the J Team. They were very impressed with how hard the children were working...and they loved our morning routine floor show!

Sausage Sizzle Wednesday

Good afternoon,

Today was Catholic Schools' Day, so children from St Mary's paid us a visit...

...and ate sausages!

Speaking of sausages, the children also watched a bit of Little Jo.

...and then drew him.

And a good time was had by all!

Please remember to practice the production songs at home...

At the End of the Day

Good evening,

This morning Ma Group demonstrated their text for today, At the End of the Day...

I don't know what that high pitched hum is though.

We also practiced the two whole school songs before dance practice. Here they are to practice at home.

Tomorrow I'm spending the morning at an iPad course, so Mrs Johnson will be at the helm.

Also St Mary's children will be joining us for a Liturgy and some fun and games from about 10:20 'till just after lunch. Sausages will be sizzled for lunch!

Inside Camping

Good evening,

This morning, after Values Assembly...

...Ma Reading Group did some Camping...Inside...

In the afternoon Mrs Norton came over to take over the Room 2 Dancers, and she was very impressed with what the children had come up with.

Great work guys!

Galoop at the Quiz Night

Good afternoon,

Yesterday afternoon I forgot to set Galoop free with a child for the weekend, so, rather than have him sit around all weekend getting up to mischief in the classroom, I brought him along to the OLA PTA Quiz Night.

And a good time was had by all!

Have a great weekend,

Whiteboard Friday

Good afternoon,

Early on this morning the Room 2 Dancers came along and together we worked out our dance sequence for our part of the production.

No pictures, but I can show you the plan...

...which, because it was on the IWB, I was able to show to the children which I'm sure helped them in their understanding.

By the end of our session they were looking fantastic! Miss Shaw and I are very pleased with the way it all came together. Next week she and I will be in the hall co-directing, so Mrs Norton will be in Room 2 to cover my absence, just for the afternoon production practices.

After morning tea we then continued with some cartoon art.

By the end of the term I am hoping that the children will have the skills to produce simple cartoons to tell their own stories, or retell the ones that they have read.

And just before lunchtime, we had a bit of a reflection time of what the children enjoyed about the week.

I'm sure there's a better way of doing this, but, well...I haven't found it yet!

The afternoon ended with Room 2 split three ways through the J Team while I took the Production Band for their first practice. So many songs, so little time!

Arghhh!

P.E. Thursday

Good afternoon,

In spite of my best efforts (Room 2's dance needs to be finalized, well, by tomorrow!), we popped out for a spot of P.E.. This term we're focusing on some Fundamental Skills as to pertaining the sending and retrieving of various objects.

First a bit of a warm up, where the object of the exercise, as well as warming up, was to encourage some avoidance techniques - basically run around in a small space without crashing into anyone else. Those you see doing star jumps below were, at that point, paying the penalty of not achieving this objective!

Then onto the main event, so to speak. Retrieving balls!

Tomorrow I'm hoping to start band practice with a group (a much bigger group than I was expecting!) of children to play the music for the production, so Room 2 will be split three ways after assembly to free me up to do just that.

So, if you arrive outside Room 2 tomorrow afternoon to pick up your child, there's a good chance that they won't be there! Try Rooms 1, 11 or 12.

A Little Bit of This...

...a little bit of that.

Good afternoon,

Another busy day was had here in Room 2. By me at the very least! I only took out the camera twice today. Once during R.E....

...where we kinda practiced for tomorrow's Holy Spirit strand assessment, and once during dance.

Which we still haven't finalized. We've got some good ideas though...

Best we get that sorted, we'll start practicing the sequence next Monday!

Have a lovely evening,

Mr Grant
