Today was all about Mrs O'Neill! Well, it wasn't really, but she was at the con while I tried to get my head around how to use tablets in the classroom for more than just games.
Mrs O'Neill started the day by trying to learn our morning routine..,
...before heading into some maths, writing...
...reading...
...and growing a friendship garden.
Tomorrow will be quite similar, as Mrs O'Neil will be back in he room since I and all of the other J Team teachers are out at Swanonnia learning some P.E..
Not much to report really. We did some read'n, writ'n, add'n and subtract'n, you know, all the usual stuff. We also R.E.'d (following up on the colours of the Gospel)...
...and some more discussing and illustrating the underlying tenants of the Room 2 Rulz.
(Speaking of being fair, I've got to find a way I can create a screen cast of me selecting who's coming on the trip next week...more soon...)
Speaking of the rules and such, please feel free to join us at 12:15 for a class signing ceremony. Think Te Treaty, but hopefully with fewer complications! Then you can stay for lunch, should your time allow.
...Room 2 went outside to complete the Searching for Tarzan that we started last week for P.E.
Imaginations ran wild!
From what I gathered from the brief debrief, a good time was had by all. Next week, ball skills.
Earlier in the day Gold Group dressed up and read to us The Boo-Dee-Roo
Tomorrow there will be two meet the teacher meetings, one at 3:15, one at 5:30. It'll primarily be a bit about me, morning routines, and a request for empty cereal boxes. And a bit about National Standards...
At the end of their second year at school, children are At Standard when they are reading Turquoise Level'd books
At the end of their second year at school, children are considered to be At Standard when they are operating at the start of Stage 4 in the Numeracy Assessments
At the end of their second year at school, children are considered to be At Standard when they are writing at the end of Level 1 in the NZ Curriculum
Above all I'll be trying to get across the message that if you have any questions, please ask. Oh, and I'm planning to draw the names of the parent helps that will accompany us next week. I thought, to make it fair, I'd put the names of those who have volunteered into The Hat and draw them out in front of you, to avoid any accusation of bias!
I'm sorry to say that we were so busy today that I forgot to take any photos of the children at all! This is not to say that I only take photos of them when we aren't busy, you understand... :-)
But to recap the day, we math'd had a values assembly, read and did a little thinking about how we could be fair in Room 2...
